The Wisconsin Regional Lily Society
Members of the Wisconsin Regional
Lily Society cordially invite you and your guest to "Reminisce with
Lilies" at the 59th Annual Show and Symposium of the North American
Lily Society.
Welcomes you to the 59th Annual Lily Society Show and Symposium The Show and Symposium will be held at the Ramada Convention Center, 205 South Barstow Street, in downtown Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Eau Claire is the heart of Northwest Wisconsin, located at the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers. French voyageurs named the city for its clear rivers and marveled at the region's white pine forests. Lumber was king, earning Eau Claire the nickname "Sawdust City." When the lumber industry closed, a modern city arose and is now a center for health and professional services, higher education, including product manufacturing for today's many technologies. The water is still clear, and area is still beautiful; we like it here and hope you will too. While in Eau Claire you will be treated to Wisconsin hospitality, good food and plenty of it. The lily tour on Saturday is one with a homegrown flair. Each garden has its own personality whether it be shade to sunny, formal to playful; each shows the growers love of the genus and to some, reflects years of work. A few of our guest speakers are fairly new to the lily circuit; some are well versed; need some humor in your life? One thing for certain, each will tell us - whether speaker or garden host - how lilies are used to suit their personal needs and desire, celebrated indoors through design or outdoors, used to beautifully our environment and enhance the quality of our lives.
Bring your stems, sign up for artistic design,
volunteer to clerk or judge. It's that time again to "Reminisce With Lilies!"
Guest speaker for Awards Banquet
Jim Ault, Ph.D. fell in love with lilies five years ago after attending
several lily lectures that opened his eyes to the beauty and diversity
of the genus. He made his first crosses in 2002 and today is growing
thousands of seedlings. (Smiten indeed!) Jim will share his perspective
on "Breeding Lilies for Midwestern Gardens" as well as some details on
his perennial plant breeding research. Jim is Director of Ornamental
Plant Research at the Chicago Botanic Gardens.
