Symposium
Mrs. Nancy Gotham, Superior, Wisconsin,
well known in artistic design circles will share her talent, teaching, and design skills using lilies to highlight
"Table and Functional Table Settings".
She is back by request from many regional artistic designers.
Her credentials are many and include master flower show judge and
landscape design critic. She has served designers in professional
capacities. Her floral designs continue to qualify her as a true
artist herself when entering artistic design competitions at a national
level.
Frans Officer, Bloomington, Minnesota, is a man on a mission - when it comes to martagons. For the past 15 years he's moved "martagon" forward with his hybridizing, photography and teaching of the genus. A talented man with man skills, Frans has eagerly agreed to share his journey with a Division II update, "The Journey Continues - Growing Martagons." Kristin Swoszowski-Tran, Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, and President of the Species Lily Preservation Group will present. Recent interest has stirred her to incorporate valuable genes into lilies suitable for gardens. Personal interest includes Ll. primilinum, jinfushanense, lijiangense, majoense, taliense, and rosthornii. She will discuss fantastic species, particularly those from China and the Himalayas and her hybridizing attempts. "Of course even thought some of these lilies possess grace, beauty, and other positive qualities, there's always another side to mirror the negatives." A good primer written by Kristin is found the NALS YEARBOOK 2004. Duane Reynolds, New Hope, Minnesota, will present "Growing Lilies and Companion Plants." Duane is an amateur horticulturist with extensive experience with flower, vegetable and fruit varieties suitable for the northern home landscape. His background includes numerous public presentations to adult audiences and annual training from the University of Minnesota's Extension Faculty; vast experience teaching and has published works. Varied background! Should be good! Calvin Helsey, Mansfield, Missouri, is well known in lily circles for his competitive edge - meticulous grooming of lilies at show time and how this detailed attention is responsible for many awards. His message from years of hybridizing Division VI trumpets will cover new and older discoveries that he has unearthed in his years of hybridizing work.
