WRLS sponsors 2 bulb sales each year. One in the spring (March or April)
and the other in the fall (October) as a service to the gardners of the
West-Central Wisconsin area. Some people drive over 100 miles to obtain
the lily bulbs we make available. The bulbs are acquired from members
as well as from reputable commercial bulb wholesalers. We strive
to have high quality bulbs and a good assortment of lily varieties.
New introductions into the lily commerce are usually included in each sale
as well as some old stand-bys. Most bulbs are hybrids but we usually have
some species varieties as well. No, we do not have daylilies. The are
of the genus Hemrocalis, and are not true lilies, that is, of the genus
Lilium.
Proceeds from these sales fund WRLS activities which includes our annual
shows, the upcoming 2006 International Show, scholarships awarded at
selected area schools, this web site, public educational meetings for
those with an interest in gardening, the public lily garden in Chippewa
Falls, WI, a display at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, and other
activities that promote lilies.
Of course availability of bulbs is dependent on some circumstances that
are beyond our control; things like crop failure, harvesting problems,
low yield, high demand, shipping problems, etc. Nothing out of the
ordinary for this kind of product.
