Public Lily Gardens

In preparation for the 1996 International Lily Show the members of WRLS designed, constructed, and planted 2 public lily gardens. One is located in Chippewa Falls, WI and the other is in Eau Claire, WI. Bloom time is late June to mid August in this part of the world (southern edge of USDA Zone 3 or northern edge of Zone 4 depending on the map you look at).

Chippewa Falls Garden

Location: Near the south east corner of Irvine Park and Leinenkugel Brewery. It is on the southwest corner of Jefferson Avenue and Bridgewater Avenue.

This garden consists of several geometrically arranged beds planted with a wide variety of lilies and complemented with a nice selection of annuals. Adjacent to the lily garden is a beautiful rose garden. You are invited to enjoy both of these beauty spots and then take a refreshing drive through Irvine Park, located just across the street from these flower gardens.

Eau Claire Garden

Location: Wilson Park, south of the downtown business district between Barstow and Farwell Streets.

WRLS members donated many hours to develop these flower beds. It was gently snowing in late November, 1994 as we planted the first bulbs. They were then tucked in for the winter with a thick blanket of pine needle mulch. Now you may sit by the fountain and consider the lilies. Listen to the birds carrying on a conversation among themselves. Squirrels often run by feasting on the acorns (and unfortunately, lilies occasionally.) This garden is now maintained by the Eau Claire Park and Recreation Department.
